The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created as a response to the attacks on September 11, 2001, with the goal to prevent similar attacks in the future. The TSA mission is to “protect the nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.”
In fiscal year 2025, the Office of Homeland Security Statistics will begin reporting on airport screening operations. Later this year, we will release a report on TSA’s screening operations at airports. The report will include data such as:
- Passenger throughput
- Baggage screened
- Checkpoint wait times
- Prohibited items found
